Reading the Label
The Label is designed to help you see, at a glance:
- The total amount of greenhouse gases emitted during the manufacture, distribution, use and disposal of a particular product. (While there may be various different greenhouse gases involved, the total figure is given as their CO2-equivalent.)
- That the producer is committed to reduce their product's carbon footprint.
- That the producer's commitment is endorsed by the Carbon Trust, the leading independent authority on carbon reduction.
When space allows, the Label may also show you:
- An explanation of the carbon footprint: for example, whether it's measured per serving or per wash.
- How the product's carbon footprint compares with similar products.
- How you can reduce your own carbon footprint by preparing, using, washing or disposing of the product in the most efficient way.
These additional elements may be shown either on the pack or on supporting sales material.
