Green Investment Bank Commission: statement from Euan Murray, General Manager of the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company

The launch of the Green Investment Bank Commission report on 29th June 2010 has generated ongoing media discussion about how to finance the move to a low carbon economy, and on the potential relationship between any Green Investment Bank and the Carbon Trust.

Walkers cuts carbon and becomes first to retain Carbon Reduction Label

Walkers and The Carbon Trust today announced that Walkers has become the first company to retain its Carbon Reduction label, after reducing its carbon footprint by 7% - equal to 6g of CO2e per standard bag of crisps, and an overall saving of 4,800 tonnes of CO2e.

Walkers became the first consumer brand in the world to display the Carbon Trust's Carbon Reduction Label in March 2007, with a commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 3% by 2009. Having in fact achieved a 7% carbon reduction in the past two years, Walkers has now committed to reducing its carbon footprint further.

Tropicana is the first consumer product in North America to receive Carbon Trust certification

PepsiCo and the Carbon Trust today launched an innovative partnership to certify the carbon footprint of several PepsiCo products, beginning with Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice. Tropicana is the first consumer brand in North America to be independently certified by the Carbon Trust.

Working together with the Columbia Earth Institute, PepsiCo has calculated the lifecycle carbon footprint of the 64-ounce container of Tropicana Pure Premium Orange Juice. The Carbon Trust, a UK government-backed independent organization established to address climate change, has certified the footprint, giving PepsiCo a verifiable benchmark against which the company can measure greenhouse gas reduction progress going forward.

UK manufacturer continues its ongoing commitment to reducing emissions

British Sugar's innovative TOPSOIL and LimeX products achieve certified carbon footprints using the Carbon Trust comparable PAS 2050 method.

British Sugar's TOPSOIL and LimeX today joined its parent company and sister business, Silver Spoon, in certifying the carbon footprint of their products using the new Carbon Trust comparable PAS 2050 method. British Sugar's TOPSOIL has been certified as producing 9 kilograms of CO2 per tonne of product and the LimeX products are certified by the Carbon Trust as producing 2 kilograms of CO2 per tonne of product.

The Carbon Trust Footprinting Company to participate in UKAS PAS 2050 Accreditation Pilot

The UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) has named the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company as one of 6 certifiers to be included in the Accreditation Pilot against the PAS 2050 and Code of Good Practice. As part of the 12-month pilot, UKAS will assess the capabilities of the 6 certifiers to certify against the PAS and Code.

In parallel, the Carbon Trust Footprinting Company is looking to work directly with the other certifiers to allow them to certify against all of the requirements to get comparable carbon footprints. This comparability is critical when benchmarking footprinting results against those completed by others and in communicating the results to consumers or other stakeholders.
